Othmar started his career as a kid, dreaming away at school. Amazed about the world, he tried to capsule it in images, drawings, tastes and colours. For a while he escaped from that all through gliding. Once back on earth, with both feed on the ground, he embraced all his associations and added a passion for music.
An education in journalism and one in photography gave him the tools to sculpture his ideas, to explore framings and to create a little framed world he favours… His actors communicate rather through body language than through dialogue. And there is often a sense of perspective to the image he´s looking for. Call it the “human factor”. He´s not afraid of technique, wether it is 3D or complicated shots. Some spots he shot himself, or did second camera as well.
Styling, framing, textures or pace, to Othmar these are all elements that play an important role in his stories. They give his characters a layered background. To him, creating a shot is like cooking. It is all a matter of timing, bite, ingredients, colours and silence. And of course the hungry one…
He shot commercials for BMW, Orange, Heineken, the Royal Air force, made a music film about “The Cello sonatas of Kodally”, and a film about “Landart”. At the moment he is busy to prepare his first english-spoken feature film, which is planned to be shot in the end of 2009.
