Nieto was born in Colombia where he studied visual communication and started working as art director in different advertising agencies.
He moved to France where he decided to focus on film direction.
His short film Carlitopolis, shot at the end of his french studies, won several awards such as the 2006 Adobe achievements awards and the audience awards in Clermont Ferrand short film festival.
